Motorola has announced that it is “exploring the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses” in a bid to improve the performance of its ailing Mobile Devices division to maximise value to its shareholders. The company stated that this may include “the separation of Mobile Devices from its other businesses”. Motorola’s two other business units are Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Home and Networks Mobility.

In an associated development it has been revealed that Motorola’s CEO (Greg Brown) will assume direct control of the Mobile Devices division – taking over from Stu Reed who was appointed to the role in July 2007. It has been reported that Reed will continue to work along side Greg Brown.
