News:
Yahoo! has announced its latest service offerings designed to extend the Yahoo! web experience to mobile phones. The web giant unveiled the third generation of its Yahoo! Go mobile client and an updated version of its mobile home page optimised for various mobile phone browsers.
Supporting both announcements was the news that Yahoo! is to provide widget support to both its Yahoo! Go 3.0 client and mobile home page services. The move follows a growing trend in mobile where ‘widgets’ (lightweight applications that can amalgamate and easily update content in a single location) are being used to enable users to fully customise and personalise a diverse range of web content on mobile phones.
At launch, widgets are available to access services including eBay, MySpace and MTV by selecting them from the “widget gallery” in Yahoo! Go 3.0. A fully featured software development kit (SDK) containing guidelines and tools for widget development will be made available in the coming weeks.
