Windows Phone 7 Mango Promises Much But May Still Lag Rivals

In a series of global events on 24 May 2011, Microsoft previewed an update to its Windows Phone platform, code-named Mango. The company describes this as a "major release" that delivers more than 500 new features. The update will be available free of charge to existing Windows Phone 7 devices and is scheduled to become available to users "in the fall". Users will receive a message on their phones and the update will be delivered when they connect their device to a PC.

The company also revealed three new Windows Phone 7 licensees: Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE. They join Dell, HTC, LG, Nokia and Samsung.
