Visa Takes Bold Step into Mobile Banking with V.me Service

On 15 November 2011, Visa launched a beta of its digital wallet service, V.me, by invitation only in the US and Canada. It provides an online payment service that can be accessed on a PC, tablet or mobile device. Visa and non-Visa users can make payments by signing into their V.me account using a username and password. Additionally Visa has launched the Visa Developer Center to help developers integrate V.me into their own products.

On 17 November 2011, Visa announced a prepaid account service that will provide mobile finance to people without bank accounts in emerging markets. Users will be able to access a Visa prepaid account through a mobile phone and send funds using SMS technology. The product will be available first on MTN networks in Nigeria and Uganda.
