Verizon Wireless has launched a highly visible and controversial series of radio, print and television advertisements that directly attack AT&T Mobility and spoof Apple's "There's an app for that" iPhone slogan. The ads juxtapose the two carriers' 3G network coverage maps, which show dramatically superior 3G coverage for Verizon Wireless. The ads remind consumers in search of a better mobile experience that "There's a map for that".
On 3 November 2009, AT&T filed a motion in court for a restraining order against the ads. Its complaint calls the series of ads misleading, and seeks a permanent suspension of the campaign. AT&T alleges the ads are causing "substantial and irreparable" harm to its goodwill among consumers and the billions it has invested in its network. Verizon Wireless responded by filing formal opposition to the motion on 16 November.
