News:

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and Nokia have announced that the Wibree Forum, the group specifying the Nokia developed ultra low power wireless technology known as Wibree, will be merged with the Bluetooth SIG. The result is that Wibree will become part of the Bluetooth specification as an ultra low power technology designed to connect peripherals such as toys, watches and sensors that have limited battery capacity with inherently lower power demands.

The ultra low power technology based on Wibree is designed for two implementations; stand alone implementation for devices / peripherals requiring low power connectivity and a dual mode implementation as an extension to the Bluetooth standard. The process of integrating Wibree within the Bluetooth specification has begun with availability for the standalone implementation expected in the first half of 2008 and the dual mode implementation likely to become available early in 2009.
