On 23 March 2009 Telefonica and Vodafone announced an agreement to share mobile network infrastructure in Germany, Spain, Ireland and the UK. Discussions about a similar deal in the Czech Republic are still ongoing. The elements of the network to be shared include masts, antennae, sites, cabinets and power supplies, although the specific terms of the agreement will vary by country.

The operators estimate that the agreement will deliver cost savings of hundreds of millions of pounds over a 10-year period. Telefonica and Vodafone are also exploring further areas for collaboration and cost saving.
