TV White Spaces Trial Seeks to Ease Mobile Network Congestion

On 27 June 2011, a group of companies announced the formation of the Cambridge TV White Spaces Consortium to trial the use of TV white spaces technology in Cambridge, UK. The companies involved are BBC, BSkyB, BT, Cambridge Consultants, Microsoft, Neul, Nokia, Samsung, Spectrum Bridge and TTP.

This is the first trial of its kind in the UK. It will initially focus on the technical merits of the technology by streaming high-quality video and audio content from the BBC and BSkyB over the unused TV spectrum to a range of mobile devices supplied by Nokia and Samsung.
