T-Mobile and Orange Merger Gains Approval But Faces Hurdles Ahead

On 1 March 2010, the European Commission approved the proposed merger of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK after obtaining concessions on spectrum usage from the network operators' parent companies. The UK Office of Fair Trading has withdrawn its request for a review by national competition authorities.

A joint venture intends to start trading in the UK in April 2010. The new entity will become Britain's largest mobile operator, with over 30 million customers.
