Symbian shipments grow but it must reduce its dependence on Nokia

Symbian announced that shipments of phones using its operating system (OS) reached 11.7 million units in Q1 2006 compared to 6.75 million units in Q1 2005 and 10.9 million units in Q1 2005.

It believes that there are currently 66 different Symbian OS phone models shipping worldwide to more than 250 network operators. It also stated that there are approximately 4700 third party applications for Symbian OS phones commercially available.
