Following Sun Microsystems acquisition of the assets of mobile Java platform company SavaJe in April (See CCS Insight Hotline 16-2007: Sun Microsystems acquires SavaJe but intentions remain unclear), Sun has clarified its intentions by announcing JavaFX Mobile. JavaFX Mobile forms part of a family of Java based technology products under the JavaFX brand aimed at helping content and application developers create and deploy rich Internet applications to run on a range of Java powered clients.
With the announcement of JavaFX Sun has introduced JavaFX Script, a new scripting language designed to enable Java developers to quickly and efficiently create a range of content rich applications that can be used on a wealth of client devices including desktops, mobile phones, set top boxes and Blu-ray disks. JavaFX Mobile directly utilises the assets from the SavaJe acquisition by providing a complete mobile phone software solution that affords a complete operating and application environment.
