On 30 November 2011, Spotify announced Spotify Platform, which allows developers to create applications for use with its music streaming service. These appear in a new Apps section on the left sidebar of Spotify's clients for Windows and Mac OS. Users will be able to install them using the App Finder, which is an embedded repository within Spotify.

Developers will have to submit applications to Spotify for approval. Sixteen applications have been announced, of which 12 were available at launch. They include Billboard, The Guardian, Last.fm, Moodagent, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Songkick, Soundrop and TuneWiki. Spotify is also developing applications for its new platform.
