On 27 October 2011, Sony announced it had agreed to acquire Ericsson's 50 percent stake in the Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications joint venture for €1.05 billion. The move makes Sony Ericsson a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony. The transaction includes an intellectual property cross-licensing agreement and ownership of five patent families. The deal is expected to close in January 2012.
