Summary
The prepaid market accounts for over 60 percent of the volume of mobile phones sold in the UK. Although one in four devices in the contract segment is now a smartphone, this type of device has yet to make a significant impact on the prepaid market. However, an avalanche of low-cost smartphones from the likes of Huawei, LG, Nokia, RIM, Samsung and ZTE is set to change this situation. The huge volumes involved mean manufacturers are already battling hard to secure a leading position. This Hotline draws on data from CCS Insight's device pricing research (see prepay.ccsinsight.com).
