Skype Takes a Different Tack to Gain More Users

On 31 March 2009, Skype revealed versions of its Skype calling application for iPhones and BlackBerry devices. Skype for iPhone, which also works on iPod touch devices, is available in the iTunes App Store now. It enables Skype calls over Wi-Fi networks and instant messaging over Wi-Fi and (on the iPhone) cellular networks. A beta version of Skype Lite will be available in May for the BlackBerry Bold and Curve, with support for other devices coming later in 2009. The BlackBerry client will enable Skype calls and instant messaging over cellular networks.
