According to figures announced by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) sales of microchips grew by 0.7 percent from April 2006 to May 2006 and are currently on target to grow by nearly 10 percent year on year.
Although these figures represent total sales of semiconductors across all technologies the SIA indicated that mobile phones were a key driver with components such as analog chips (21.5 percent growth), digital signal processors (DSPs / 13.7 percent growth) and flash memory growing robustly. These are all critical components inside mobile phones.
