Samsung Redefines the Smartphone as Competition Intensifies

On 15 June 2009 Samsung announced its Jet phone at three high-profile media events in Dubai, London and Singapore. The Jet is a quad-band EDGE and dual-band HSDPA 3.6 Mbps device. It uses a proprietary Samsung platform and features a high-resolution 3.1-inch resistive touch-screen display, five-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, WebKit-based browser and support for Microsoft Active Sync. Samsung also unveiled four new Windows Mobile 6.1 products in its Omnia family: the Omnia II I8000, Omnia Lite B7300, Omnia Pro B7610 and Omnia Pro B7320.

On the same day at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore, Nokia announced three new devices: the E72, 5530 XpressMusic and 3710 fold.
