On 19 March 2009, Samsung launched Samsung Movies, a download service powered by Acetrax. Initially launching in the UK and Germany, the service will be rolled out in other European markets in 2009. Users will be able to download movies and TV shows to own or rent on compatible Samsung mobile devices, as well as laptops and PCs.
The service launches with over 500 titles from Hollywood studios Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal and Momentum Pictures. By the end of the first quarter of 2009, a further 500 titles will be added, followed by an additional 1,000 movies and TV shows by the end of June 2009. Samsung plans to expand the service to its portable media players and TVs. Downloads cost from £2.49 for 24-hour rental or from £4.99 to own.
