QNX Operating System Takes Central Role in RIM's PlayBook Tablet

Research In Motion (RIM) announced its first tablet device, the PlayBook, at its developer conference on 27 September 2010. The device runs on the QNX Neutrino operating system, which RIM acquired from Harman International in April 2010. The PlayBook has a seven-inch touch screen, front and back cameras, HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi but no cellular connectivity.

RIM also announced several enhancements to its developer support programme, most of which relate to new software platform architecture.
