On 27 September 2011, the Linux Foundation and the LiMo Foundation announced Project Tizen. Tizen is an open-source software platform designed for smartphones, tablets, netbooks, TVs and in-vehicle devices. The platform will be managed by the Linux Foundation and led by a steering group consisting of Samsung and Intel. Application programming interfaces will be based on HTML5 and a software development kit will be released in the first quarter of 2012.
