Objectives and Priorities for Nokia's New CEO

Summary

Stephen Elop was appointed as Nokia's first non-Finnish CEO in the middle of a turbulent run-up to Nokia World in September 2010. He made his first official company appearance at the event, choosing the final session of the show to present a cheque for a $1 million investment to a small Nigerian software development company.

On 21 October he presented Nokia's 3Q10 results, which were better than most people were expecting. However, it was not all good news: he lowered guidance on the market share of the devices and services division for the fourth quarter while raising the forecast of total market demand. He did not reveal any change in strategy, but did announce reorganisations of the units responsible for Symbian software development and Ovi services, which will bring up to 1,800 job losses.

In this Hotline we offer suggested objectives and high-priority actions as Mr Elop settles into the top job at Nokia.
