On 8 November 2011, Nvidia formally announced its quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Previously referred to as Project Kal-El, the chip was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February 2011.
Nvidia claims Tegra 3 provides significant performance improvements over the dual-core Tegra 2. It features a fifth "companion" CPU as well as a new 12-core Nvidia GeForce graphics processing unit (GPU). The first device to use the Tegra 3 chip will be the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet, which will ship in early December 2011 for $499.
