North America Offers Unique Showcase for LTE and Next-Generation Mobile Broadband

On 11 December 2008, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) announced it had approved a "functional freeze" of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) in Release 8 of the technology's specifications. This effectively marks the specification's completion, though fine tuning will continue ahead of a ratification vote in March 2009.
