Nokia's Ovi Store Goes Live, But Teething Problems Expose Challenges

On 26 May 2009, Nokia opened the doors to its much-anticipated Ovi Store. At launch the store's download client was available for more than 50 Nokia phones, with an estimated reach of 50 million people. The client can be downloaded in nine countries (Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain, the UK and the US), and the store can also be accessed through mobile and PC browsers in about 50 countries. Consumers can make purchases using a credit card; in eight countries (Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain and the UK), operator billing is also available.

In a related announcement Nokia revealed that AT&T plans to make Ovi Store available to its US customers later in 2009.
