On 2 December 2009 Nokia hosted its annual Capital Markets Day in Helsinki. The event set out Nokia's financial targets and operational priorities for its Devices and Services business in 2010. These included the following forecasts and goals:
- Global mobile device volumes will rise approximately 10 percent in 2010
- Nokia's share of mobile device volumes in 2010 will be flat compared with 2009
- Its share of mobile device value is expected to rise slightly in 2010
- Lower erosion of Nokia's average selling prices for mobile devices in 2010 than in recent years
- A non-IFRS operating margin for Nokia Devices and Services of 12 percent to 14 percent in 2010
- A continuing aim of 300 million active users for Nokia services by the end of 2011
Among operational priorities, an improvement in user interface was cited as the overarching focus for 2010. In particular, Nokia emphasised that the Symbian user interface would be re-engineered to deliver Symbian^3 devices in the first half of 2010 and Symbian^4 phones before the end of that year. Nokia further pledged to launch its first Maemo 6-powered device in the second half of 2010 and to increase significantly the proportion of touch-screen and qwerty devices.
