Nokia Shuffles Board to Tackle Changing Competitive Landscape

On 16 October 2009, Nokia announced changes to the roles of its group executive board members. Rick Simonson will move from his role as chief financial officer (CFO) to the head of the Mobile Phones division of the Devices business unit headed by Kai Oistamo. The transfer will be effective from 1 November 2009. Mr Simonson will also head strategic sourcing for the entire Devices unit and will remain a member of the board.
Jo Harlow will move from global marketing, which she joined in 2003, to lead Smartphones, a newly formed division of the Devices unit. In contrast, a new Computers division, to be led by John Martin, will reside in the Solutions group headed by Alberto Torres and overseen by Mr Oistamo and Niklas Savander, executive vice president of services. Mr Martin joins Nokia from rival Apple, where he was vice president for iPhone and Mac Internet services.
Timo Ihamuotila, currently global head of sales, will transfer to the role of CFO on 1 November 2009 and will also continue to be a member of the group executive board.
