Netflix Looks Overseas as US Operation Faces Obstacles

On 5 September 2011, Netflix announced the launch of an online streaming video-on-demand service in Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean. The service will initially be available in Brazil, but will spread to another 42 countries within weeks.

Similar to its existing streaming product in the US, the service will allow viewers to watch a selection of TV shows and films on a range of connected devices including PCs, the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 consoles, and connected TVs. In Brazil, the service will cost R$14.99 (about US$9) a month after a one-month free trial. A range of content will be available in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
