Google's Android software platform for mobile phones has gained further support in recent weeks. During Motorola's 3Q08 earnings call, the US phone maker announced that Android would take a leading role in its portfolio, and the first Motorola Android device would appear in the second half of 2009. On 9 November, Chinese manufacturer Huawei announced its intention to launch both Android- and Symbian-based devices in the first half of 2009. And on 19 November, Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo revealed it would release an Android-powered phone in 2009. The platform has already established backing from HTC, LG and Samsung, all of which are also expected to launch Android devices during 2009.
