More Operators Will Back Android as Phone Makers Show Support

Google's Android software platform for mobile phones has gained further support in recent weeks. During Motorola's 3Q08 earnings call, the US phone maker announced that Android would take a leading role in its portfolio, and the first Motorola Android device would appear in the second half of 2009. On 9 November, Chinese manufacturer Huawei announced its intention to launch both Android- and Symbian-based devices in the first half of 2009. And on 19 November, Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo revealed it would release an Android-powered phone in 2009. The platform has already established backing from HTC, LG and Samsung, all of which are also expected to launch Android devices during 2009.
