Microsoft's Developer Announcements Hint at Mobile Games Strategy

On 18 March 2010 at the Mix10 developer event in Las Vegas, Microsoft revealed further information about the development opportunity on Windows Phone 7 Series. Notably, Microsoft's Silverlight and the XNA Framework were confirmed as the technologies for application and 3D game development on Windows Phone 7 Series devices.

Microsoft also announced the removal of license fees for developer tools including Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express, Windows Phone 7 Series add-in to use with Visual Studio 2010, XNA Game Studio 4.0, Windows Phone 7 Series Emulator for application testing and Expression Blend. The announcements were supported by commitments from a range of high-profile application and game developers including Electronic Arts Mobile, Glu Mobile, Konami and Namco Bandai Games.
