LG Betting on 2011 Recovery after Misstep in Smartphone Strategy

News

On 1 October 2010, Bon-Joon Koo (the younger brother of LG Group chairman Bon-Moo Koo) was appointed CEO of LG Electronics, replacing Yong Nam, who resigned after taking responsibility for "the current difficult situation". Mr Nam's resignation comes after LG's mobile phone division reported its biggest-ever loss of 120 billion won ($103 million) in July 2010. The division's head, Scott Ahn, is to become LG's chief technology officer and will be replaced by Jong-Seok Park, who currently heads up mobile R&D at the company.

The changes in leadership coincided with LG's announcement of two new Android-powered handsets, the Optimus One and Optimus Chic. Both devices will ship in 4Q10.
