Intel's Chip Advances Will Dent ARM's PC Market Aspirations

On 4 May 2011, Intel unveiled its latest advances in microprocessor design. The 22-nm version of its Sandy Bridge architecture, code-named Ivy Bridge, will feature three-dimensional gates on its transistor arrays. Intel claims that 22-nm chips using its Tri-Gate technology will achieve up to 37 percent performance increase at low voltage compared with its current 32-nm processors, or achieve the same performance using less than half the power.
