Intel exits mobile phone processor business

Intel has announced that it plans to sell its communications and application processor business to Marvell Technology for $600 million.

The division sells processors for handheld devices such as smartphones and PDAs based on Intel XScale technology.

Existing customers include Research in Motion (the processor is used in the 8700 and 7130 products), Palm’s Treo products and Motorola’s Q.
