Innovative Touch Screen Makes BlackBerry Storm a Credible Rival to iPhone

News

On 8 October 2008, Research In Motion (RIM), Verizon Wireless and Vodafone revealed the BlackBerry Storm 9500. Details of the phone had been widely leaked on many Web sites before its release, though few sites had accurately reported every aspect of the device that at one point was thought to be called the BlackBerry Thunder.

The front of the Storm is covered by a "clickable" touch screen, as well as four hardware buttons: call, end, menu and back. It has quad-band EDGE, dual-band CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and 2100-MHz HSDPA radios. The device sports a 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, microSD slot and a 3.5mm audio socket. It is 14mm thick and weighs 155g. The Storm will be available only on Vodafone and Verizon Wireless networks from November 2008.
