Industry's Obsession with Tablets Needs a Dose of Reality

Google unveiled further information about its Android operating system at an event at its Mountain View, California, headquarters on 2 February 2011. A large part of this announcement focused on version 3.0 of Android, code-named Honeycomb, which features optimisations for tablet devices.

On 9 February 2011, HP unveiled its TouchPad, a tablet with a 9.7-inch screen and powered by webOS, the platform HP acquired with its purchase of Palm in April 2010. More tablet-related announcements from a host of manufacturers are expected at Mobile World Congress (see CCS Insight Hotline 2011-04: Preview of Mobile World Congress 2011).
