Indian market's continued growth makes it attractive to external investors

Bharti, Indian’s largest network operator (by subscribers), has reported strong growth. Net profits have doubled while it has added a record 5.02 million new subscribers. This grew its total base to 33.7 million subscribers at the end of 2006.

Average revenue per user (ARPU) was a little under $10 – significantly higher than the often cited sub-$5 per user and the Indian average of around $7.50.

The telecom regulator in India estimates that there are now nearly 150 million mobile phone subscribers in the country.
