On 7 June 2011 the Financial Times announced it was launching a new Web-based version of its mobile application. Developed using HTML, and particularly elements from the forthcoming HTML5 specification, the application is available from the newspaper's Web site for Apple iOS devices. Optimised versions for other devices are also planned and will eventually replace native applications developed for specific mobile platforms. On 15 June 2011, it was reported that Facebook is working on Project Spartan, rumoured to be a platform based on HTML5 and designed for Apple iOS devices.
