HTC to acquire Dopod International and pursue a global branding strategy

HTC has signed an acquisition agreement with Dopod International, one of the leading distributors of HTC manufactured devices in Asia. Under the terms of the agreement HTC will acquire the assets of nine subsidiaries in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, India and the Philippines. Although still subject to shareholder approval, the transfer of all assets is scheduled to become effective on July 1st 2007 at a price not expected to exceed $14.5 million. The entire workforce of Dopod International is expected to join HTC. All future products will be marketed under the HTC brand although existing devices in the market will still be sold under the Dopod brand name and after sales support for Dopod customers will be provided by HTC.
In tandem with the Dopod acquisition, HTC has announced a global branding strategy with future products to be sold and marketed under the HTC brand.
