HTC has announced a new addition to its Windows Mobile device portfolio. The HTC Touch features Windows Mobile 6.0 Classic, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 and Wi-Fi in a compact 13.9mm thick form factor. The HTC Touch is differentiated from existing Windows Mobile devices through the addition of the HTC developed ‘TouchFLO’ technology which provides a three dimensional user interface incorporating contacts, media and applications. The Touch will be the first product to be sold in Asia under the HTC brand while Orange will be the first operator to launch under the HTC brand in Europe. T-Mobile will offer an own-branded, fully customized version of the Touch across key European markets.
Coinciding with HTC’s product launch, i-mate has announced an ‘extremely disappointing’ end to the financial year to March 31st 2007. The UAE based company reported a pre-tax loss of $2.1 million compared to a profit of $22.5 million the previous year as sales fell to $195 million from $206 million with UK sales declining from $23 million to $12.4 million. i- mate reported that the downturn was due to supply and quality difficulties with its manufacturing partners.
