Summary
On 27 and 28 October 2009 the Symbian Exchange and Exposition (SEE) event took place in London. Formerly known as the Symbian Smartphone Show, SEE 2009 was the first dedicated event for the Symbian Foundation.
Attended by about 2,500 delegates and almost 50 exhibitors, the event was positioned as a forum "to share, create, network and learn" through a combination of keynote presentations, seminars, developer training sessions and product demonstrations.
Announcements at the show included the formal launch of the Symbian Foundation's application publishing program, called Horizon, which was first announced in July 2009. The launch featured the addition of two new agreements, which will provide developers with access to Sony Ericsson's PlayNow arena and China Mobile's Mobile Market, in addition to Nokia's Ovi Store, Samsung's Application Store and AT&T's Media Mall. The show was also used as a forum to unveil a new Symbian Foundation Web site.
In a separate announcement in Beijing, Nokia revealed its first TD-SCDMA device for the Chinese market. The Symbian-powered 6788 is the result of close collaboration between Nokia and China Mobile. Availability is scheduled for December 2009.
On the day after the show, Fujitsu and Qualcomm Innovation Center announced they had joined the Symbian Foundation and been appointed to the board of directors. The board now comprises four device manufacturers (Fujitsu, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson), three operators (AT&T, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone), and three semiconductor companies (Qualcomm, ST Microelectronics and Texas Instruments).
