Research In Motion (RIM) held its annual event for developers, users and channel partners from 3 to 5 May 2011. BlackBerry World, formerly known as Wireless Enterprise Symposium, took place in Orlando, Florida. It was preceded by RIM's Capital Markets Day for investors on 2 May in the same location.
During the two events RIM made several announcements. These included a partnership with Microsoft that will make Bing search and mapping services the default option on BlackBerry devices. RIM also unveiled the Bold 9900 and 9930 devices, which will run BlackBerry 7 OS, a new version of its smartphone platform. It also announced the acquisition of Ubitexx, developer of security software for mobile devices, and launched BlackBerry Balance, which manages personal and corporate data on a single device. Finally, RIM announced two new applications for its PlayBook tablet: a Facebook app and PlayBook Video Chat.
