On 5 March 2010, German telecom regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur, announced that the country's four existing network operators had registered to take part in its auction of frequency spectrum on 12 April 2010. A further applicant withdrew and another failed to meet registration criteria. Frequencies in four separate spectrum bands will be available: 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2 GHz and 2.6 GHz.
In separate news the Dutch government has approved nine companies to participate in the auction of 2.6 GHz radio spectrum due to start on 20 April 2010. Winning bidders will be able to deploy LTE or WiMAX networks.
