Companies Begin to Take NFC Beyond Mobile Payment

In December 2010 we made a prediction that near field communication (NFC) would become as pervasive as Wi-Fi in mobile devices by 2013. We said that device manufacturers would have implemented NFC across much of their portfolio during 2011 and that, during 2012, use cases would move beyond payments and transportation to include Bluetooth pairing, checking in to locations on social networks, launching a URL and downloading apps.

It is now useful to take stock of phone manufacturer and other companies' approaches to NFC beyond mobile payment.
