CCS Insight expectations for 3GSM

With the 3GSM Congress in Barcelona expected to attract over 60,000 visitors and 1,300 exhibitors it will be the focal point for a multitude of announcements regarding new products, partnerships, services and devices.

Below we provide an overview of what we expect to be the key trends at the show. Following the event CCS Insight will publish a comprehensive report analysing the key highlights.

Proliferation of more capable devices

CCS Insight predicts that all of the leading manufacturers and many smaller tier two players and ODMs will announce products with a variety of enhanced technology features.

Key areas for improvement will be:

  • Screen technology (bigger, brighter, more efficient screens)
  • Location capability (integrated GPS / A-GPS) including announcements regarding dramatically cheaper in-built silicon solutions from providers such as SiRF.
  • Mobile TV (support for DVB-H, MBMS and various other standards such as MediaFLO, DMB and DAB-T)
  • Higher capacity memory either internally using NAND flash and micro hard disk drives or through the provision of high capacity memory cards bundled with phones
  • Multi mode devices supporting WiFi or WiMax
