On 5 May 2010 Blyk announced the launch of its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) ad-funded service in the Netherlands. The company is targeting 16- to 29-year-olds with an offering that includes 1,000 free text messages and 1,000 free Blyk-to-Blyk minutes a month in exchange for receiving ads on their mobile phones. Ads will be delivered by text and picture messages; initial advertisers include Beachmasters, Electronic Arts, McDonald's, Nike, Pearle and Universal Pictures. Users signing up to the service must have an MMS-capable unlocked mobile phone.
