The long anticipated Apple iPhone was announced by CEO Steve Jobs to a frenzied audience at the Macworld conference in San Francisco.
The device has the following specifications:
- GSM Quad band phone supporting EDGE
- Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi (802.11 b/g)
- Apple OS X operating system (likely to be a cut down version of OS 10)
- 2 mega pixel camera
- Safari web browser
- 3.5 inch touch sensitive widescreen display (320 x 480)
- Patented “multi-touch” input using fingers
- Built in rechargeable, non-removable battery
(Apple claims 5 hours talk-time and 16 hours of audio playback) - Optimized applications from Google and Yahoo! (e.g. mapping and email)
- 3 sensors (Proximity / Ambient Light / Accelerometer)
- The device will be available to two versions: 4GB ($499) and 8GB ($599)
