Apple to work with Japanese operator Softbank to deliver iTunes phone

According to Japanese news reports, Softbank (which bought Vodafone Japan) has announced that it plans to jointly develop mobile phones with Apple. These devices will not only feature iPod music player capability but also the ability to download music directly from Apple’s iTunes Music Store.

The first product is expected to be available by the end of 2006 and will be sold through the operator’s own shops but also other consumer electronics retail channels.
