Apple Needs New iPhone Products to Sustain Phenomenal Growth

As part of its fiscal fourth-quarter 2008 results Apple announced it shipped 6.89 million iPhones in the three months ending 27 September 2008. Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, stated that it was "one of the best quarters in Apple's history" and emphasised that Apple sold more phones than Research In Motion (RIM). He claimed Apple is now the third-largest manufacturer of mobile phones by value, after Nokia and Samsung. Apple's results were also buoyed by record sales of iPods during a non-holiday period, which achieved shipments of just over 11 million units. Jobs cautioned that it is unclear how an economic downturn might affect the company.
