On 8 June 2009, Apple revealed the iPhone 3G S at its Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco. The device features tri-band HSDPA 7.2 Mbps support, 16GB or 32GB of memory, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, touch to focus, white balance and auto exposure, video recording at 30 frames per second, voice control of functions and applications, a digital compass and improved talk-time of five hours for 3G communications and 12 hours for 2G. Apple also highlighted the phone's green credentials, citing the elimination of harmful chemicals and 23 percent less packaging.
The company also reiterated OS 3.0 improvements and highlighted new features. The new operating system will be available for download on 17 June 2009. It will be a free upgrade for iPhone users, and cost $9.95 on the iPod touch. OS 3.0 also adds support for tethering as a modem, though operators will determine its enablement. AT&T's logo was missing from the list of carriers that will support the feature. Apple also highlighted a new "find my iPhone" feature. This works through Apple's MobileMe service, and offers users the ability to geo-locate a device, make it ring, send it a notification, or remotely wipe it.
