“3” (part of the Hutchison Whampoa Group) has announced a new package called X-Series offering access to data services adopting a similar single fee flat rate pricing model to wireline broadband services.
As part of the announcement it revealed it is working with leading Internet brands such as Sling Media, Orb and Google. These partnerships add to existing relationships with Skype, Microsoft Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo.
The two launch handsets for the service are Nokia’s N73 and the Sony Ericsson W950i.
The X-Series product will initially be available on “3”’s UK network in December 2006. The offering will be rolled out to its other global properties in Austria, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Hong Kong and Sweden during 2007.
“3” did not provide any information on pricing for the service at the time of the announcement.
